De tomaso History:
Introduced in 1963, the Vallelunga was De Tomaso’s frist road-going production model. It was a mid-engined sports car was propelled with a 104 bhp Ford Cortina engine, and had a top speed of 215 km/h .It featured an aluminium backbone chassis, which was to become De Tomasostechnological trademark, and fibreglass bodywork. The first De Tomaso produced in anything like significant numbers, the Mangusta, introduced in 1966, was also the first to be developed in association with Ford, a firm which was to have a decisive influence on De Tomasosearly life. The Mangusta was succeeded by the Pantera, the car that was to put De Tomaso on the map .It appeared in 1971 with a 5.8-litre Ford V8 and a low, wedge-shaped body designed by GhiasTom Tjaarda.Though less visually arresting than the Mangusta, the Pantera looked set to vault De Tomaso into the ranks of the supercar giants. In 1980, the GT5 model was introduced. The GT5 incorporated better brakes, a more luxurious interior, much larger wheels and tires, and a fiberglass body kit comprised of an air dam, wheel flares and running boards. The Guara is De Tomaso’s most recent production car, and has been built in fits and starts since 1993. Available in coupe and barchetta versions and based on a Maserati competition car from 1991, the Guara uses Ford and BMW parts in a sweeping composite body which betrays its origins on the track. As with all De Tomasos except the Pantera, production has been both small and sporadic. In the early 2000s two other cars were planned by De Tomaso, but both proved abortive. Subsequently, there was poor performance afterwards and De Tomaso went into voluntary liquidation in June 2004.

Other De tomaso Details:
Some famous cars produced by De Tomaso include; De Tomaso Vallelunga, De Tomaso Mangusta, De Tomaso Pantera, Deauville, Longchamp, Guara ,Bigua. The Vallelunga was an extremely rare mid-engined sports car produced by De Tomaso from 1965 through 1967. The Vallelunga was based on De TomasosFormula One racing technology, and the spider version was first shown as a concept car at the Turin Motor Show in 1963. It entered production two years later, with 53 coupe models built.De Tomaso Mangusta was a sports car from Italian automobile manufacturer De Tomaso between 1967 and 1970, replacing the Vallelunga model. The word "Mangusta" is Latin for "Mongoose". It was De Tomasoshope that the Mangusta would compete favorably with the AC Cobra and other Italian exotic cars. The Mangusta was replaced by the much cheaper to build De Tomaso Pantera in 1971.The Pantera was a sports car produced by the de Tomaso Company of Italy from 1971 through 1996. The word "Pantera" is Italian for "Panther". The car was designed by Tom Tjaarda and replaced the de Tomaso Mangusta. Unlike the Mangusta, which employed a steel backbone chassis, the Pantera was a steel monocoque design, the first instance of de Tomaso using this construction technique.
